Preschool Renovation in Singapore for Maple Bear Loyang

Preschool renovation has to satisfy children, teachers and a regulator at the same time. Offix designed and built the 6,000+ sq ft Maple Bear centre at Aranda Country Club in Loyang, Singapore — child-safe materials, custom furniture and clean finishes throughout — from space planning to handover in four to six weeks.

The brief

What makes a preschool renovation different?

A preschool renovation is not an office fit-out with brighter colours. Everything within a child’s reach has to be considered separately: edges, gaps, heights, the finish on a surface a toddler will put a hand on, and how quickly a room can be cleaned at the end of the day.

The Loyang centre at Aranda Country Club needed a full renovation of just over 6,000 sq ft — reception, circulation, classrooms and the shared spaces between them — delivered to the brand’s standard and ready to receive children on a fixed date.

Offix is the appointed main contractor for Maple Bear in Singapore and has delivered the majority of their centre renovations across the island. That matters on a project like this: the standards are known before the first drawing — what has to be rounded, what has to be sealed, and what an inspector looks at first.

What we did

What we built at Maple Bear Loyang

The centre was managed end to end, from space planning through to handover. Reception was rebuilt with a timber counter and a glazed screen so staff can see the entrance and the waiting area at once, and the display joinery beside it is backlit rather than lit from above, which keeps glare out of children’s eyes.

The lobby carries a green living wall against timber battens with artificial grass underfoot — a soft, quiet surface in the one area where children arrive, wait and leave. Circulation is finished in timber-look flooring that takes traffic and cleans easily, and storage was built low so children can reach their own belongings.

Custom furniture was made to the plan rather than bought to fit it, which is the practical advantage of design and build under one contract — joinery, heights and layout resolved together.

The playground and the children’s washrooms were part of the same package. A preschool washroom is a specification problem in miniature — child-height fittings, flooring that stays non-slip and still cleans easily, rounded edges wherever a child passes, and cubicle heights that let a teacher supervise without removing privacy. The playground was approached the same way, with the surfacing, the edges and the sightlines decided together rather than bought in separately.

Which materials are safe for a preschool?

Material selection is where a preschool renovation is won. Every exposed edge within reach is rounded, joinery is detailed to avoid finger traps at hinges and gaps, and surfaces are chosen to be genuinely wipe-clean — a distinction that shows up six months later, not on handover day.

Finishes were chosen to be child-friendly and easy to keep clean, and the palette is deliberately calm: timber, green and white, with the brand’s red used as an accent on doors rather than across whole walls. A preschool that is visually loud in every room is tiring for the staff who are in it all day.

Safety standards and the handover date were treated as the same problem. Work was sequenced so the noisy and dusty trades finished well before the final clean, and the centre was handed over ready for children rather than ready for snagging — the same discipline we bring to any renovation and construction programme.
